Approved Container Codes (non-refillable containers)
As per Section (16) of the Beverage Container Recycling Regulation (BCRR), non refillable containers are to be recycled by a method approved by the Board.
The following information is provided as a guideline in order to determine if the container you intend to register has been approved for use by the Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB).
Selecting the appropriate container code is vital in ensuring that the materials used in the composition of the container can be recycled and will not contaminate existing material streams. Please note that the composition of the container includes all components – including but not limited to the container, closure (lid), label, and any other inserts or attachments.
If a container code for the material of your container is not listed, you are unsure of the composition, or if the container is more than 20 liters in volume please contact the BCMB directly at 1 (780) 424-3193, or toll free at 1 (888) 424-7671 Ext. 224.
Please note selecting the wrong container code or providing false information may place you in non-compliance of the Beverage Container Recycling Regulation (BCRR) and/or BCMB By-Laws.
METALS
If you are unsure whether the container is aluminum or bi-metal you can test the container using a magnet; aluminum is not magnetic whereas bi-metal is.

PLASTICS
Plastics can be identified by their resin identification code. The code (number) is stamped on the bottom of the container within the triangle recycling symbol.
Please note the colour of the plastic may affect the container code, specifically when dealing with Polyethylene Terephthalate (#1 PET) and High Density Polyethylene (#2 HDPE).

PLASTIC ONE-WAY KEGS
Plastic one-way kegs come in a variety of types and sizes. Each plastic one-way keg must be reviewed by the BCMB on an individual basis. The following list breaks out in detail the specific brands and sizes that have been approved.
